Regulations of the Hypertension in Diabetes EASD Study Group (HID)

The aim of the Hypertension in Diabetes Study Group (HID) of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) is to promote advancement of knowledge on all aspects of arterial hypertension through active co-operation between interested diabetologists and other specialists. The main aim of HID is to bring together researchers working in the field of arterial hypertension in diabetes mellitus, exchange experiences in research and promote discussions during regular meetings. HID may work actively for establishment of European collaborative studies and act as a reference group for EASD in matters related to hypertension and diabetes.

New membership in the HID is open to all members of the EASD who present an abstract during the annual meeting of the group. Non-attenders of two annual meetings in row will lose their membership. The members of the group elect among themselves during the business meeting by a simple majority of the members present at the annual meeting the Executive Committee of HID which consists of a President (term 3 years), Vice-President (term 3 years), Secretary (term 4 years) and up to four additional Executive Committee members (term 3 years). The members of the Committee are re-eligible but should not serve for more than two consecutive terms. Four members of the Executive Committee including the President will decide together with the local organisers upon the structure of the annual meeting of the group, final programme selection including the acceptance of abstracts. Each member of the Committee has one vote, when necessary, the President will have a casting vote.

The Group shall meet on an annual basis for a scientific meeting and a business meeting. The time and place of the meetings will be decided by the Executive Committee. The meeting will be announced in Diabetologia. Abstracts selected for oral presentation and abstract discussion will be published in a booklet. Abstracts not selected for presentation during the meeting may also be included inthe booklet. There will be no poster presentation. In addition to the annual meeting HID may promote seminars, workshops or other meetings preferably together with the other EASD working groups. If such meeting is to be held in the name of HID it needs approval by the HID Executive Committee. The group will submit annually to the EASD a written summary of the activities for publication in Diabetologia. A member of HID Executive Committee must attend the annual EASD General Assembly. The financial support for the annual meeting will be sought from pharmaceutical companies, if financial problems arise the organisers will be allowed to take registration fee from all participants. The financial support should be used for accommodation and meals during the annual meeting etc. The travel expenses should be covered by the members. However, the Members of the Executive Committee may give travel grants to selected members of the group who present an abstract during the meeting and who need financial support.

These by-laws may be amended by a 2/3 majority of members attending the annual business meeting of the Group.

(These regulations were accepted by the members of the group during the first meeting in Padua on the 8th of March 1996, modified during the 4th meeting in Katowice on 23rd April 1999 and at the 5th meeting in Paris on 19th May 2000).
